B Dash Ventures
Tokyo-based venture capital firm investing in domestic and international startups from seed to later stages, with incubation space and a twice-yearly technology conference.
B Dash Ventures is a Tokyo-based venture capital firm founded in 2011. It invests in domestic and international startups across seed, early and later stages, deploying capital through funds backed by major Japanese telecommunications carriers, internet companies, financial institutions and institutional investors. The first fund concentrated mainly on seed and early-stage companies; subsequent funds have broadened to cover a wider range of stages. Check sizes and fund volumes are not disclosed.
Alongside investment, the firm provides portfolio support through B Dash Lab, an incubation office space offered to portfolio companies for a period after founding, giving them a base from which to grow towards independent offices or exits. Its stated focus areas span technology startups and the wider startup ecosystem, with activity concentrated in Japan and extending to international investments.
B Dash Ventures also organises B Dash Camp, an invitation-only technology conference held twice yearly since 2011. The event convenes startup founders, technology executives, investors and startup supporters for panels and networking, and includes the Pitch Arena startup competition. The firm describes its remit as helping produce leading startups for the next generation and contributing to the development of Japan's startup ecosystem.
