About

We help entrepreneurs succeed. It has been our mission from day one. We challenge existing paradigms of how things are done in the normal VC world. Our experience of actually being in the thick of the action day in, day out with Founders and their companies, actively pushing them towards their end game - wherever it might be - has taught us it pays off. To be active. To be present. To be hands on. To apply everything we know in every interaction, every task. Whatever it takes.

We believe in

People. Great people. They have been the center of attention since we started investing intensively in 2018. We invest in people in everything we do: in problems affecting potentially millions of people on a global scale, in deeply committed and talented founder teams, and in the strength, experience and know-how of our team and its ability to help our founders and portfolio companies succeed on their journeys.

It’s all about People

We partner with the most talented entrepreneurs – bringing to the table industry know-how, relentless dedication and money to move startups fast forward.

What we look for

We back start-ups and founder teams when we’re sure that our operational skillset, experience, and network will bring an original vision to life. From pre-seed to venture to expansive growth with best-in-class founders at every stage of the journey. While we like to keep an open mind, and only invest in companies that improve people and businesses’ everyday lives, we don’t want to invest our time (or money) in companies working within industries or sectors, which we consider bad for people. Our industry focus may change from time to time depending on emerging macro-economic, socio-economic, and technological trends. But based on a combination of our experiences, current capabilities, and interesting megatrends we see in the market, we focus our investments within technology-driven companies and with a soft focus on Digital health and SaaS products.

What do you invest in?

We invest in people in everything that we do: In real life challenges affecting potentially millions of people and businesses on a global scale and in deeply committed and talented founder teams of people uniquely qualified and motivated to grasp the problem and build tomorrows most powerful solutions. Tech companies, with software driven business-models.

At our core we remain agnostic of what industries, we could potentially make investments in. Having said that there will be industries, where we will not be investing. While we like to keep an open mind, we also see the value in focusing our attention on a few, more specific industries. We are currently focused on digital health and enterprise software (B2B SaaS).

Grand Ventures

We back companies building innovative B2B SaaS products. We’re always in search of entrepreneurs pursuing bold solutions to complex problems. Who we are Passionate about supporting business growth in emerging venture markets Since the fund’s launch in 2017, one of our guiding principles has been a desire to support entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds who often face unfair obstacles to obtaining institutional funding. Although only roughly 30% of US venture funding is allocated to companies based outside of California, Boston, and NYC each year, other cities contain no shortage of capable founders. When we began searching for talent in our own backyard, we learned that the best companies are often found where you might least expect. Silicon Valley no longer holds a monopoly over entrepreneurial talent. We know that startups thrive in commonly overlooked regions which provide access to untapped markets and lower operational costs. Our portfolio companies are based in a wide variety of fast-growing venture markets, including cities like Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Atlanta, and Toronto, among others. What we look for Strong, diverse teams building the future of B2B technology When evaluating new investment opportunities, there are several key elements we value most highly. We like to work with scrappy, self-aware teams who are open to receiving feedback and guidance. We prefer to see some level of product-market validation in the form of contracted recurring revenues. We invest broadly in the B2B SaaS space, with particular interest in verticals including digital health, IT/development tools, industrial, human resources, marketing technologies, and more. We weigh the merits of diverse leadership heavily when evaluating new investments. While we certainly always have room for improvement in our mission to support entrepreneurs from underrepresented backgrounds, we’re proud that half of our current portfolio companies are led by female and/or nonwhite founders. We’re always eager to meet bold, driven teams who are creating disruptive technologies. Think that could be you? Please contact us. How we help A world-class Advisory Board and ongoing mentorship The Grand Ventures team is supported in our efforts by our extensive Board of Advisors. The board consists of over 50 of the fund’s LPs. Our advisors have extensive experience building successful tech companies - including the likes of US Robotics, Hagerty, Monster.com, and Facebook – and they are always eager to share their learned lessons with our portfolio CEOs. We get excited about supporting founders through the earliest, most challenging stages of building successful businesses. We often provide the first institutional check to companies and remain actively engaged as needed to promote growth and strategic focus. We’re ready to roll up our sleeves and help with everything from customer introductions to leadership coaching to sales and culture development. But don’t just take our word for it-- you can ask our CEOs.

Moneta Ventures

We are entrepreneurs and operators and have been working together for over 25 years. Investment thesis. Focused on Software++ We invest in enterprise software companies building mission-critical solutions for their customers that also have two additional characteristics (or plusses, as we call them) that are truly differentiating: + Transformational tech The first plus is technology that enables transformational, rather than incremental, change. The kind of technology that has the potential to materially impact the underlying value proposition within a specific domain. Technology that is so valuable in its own right that it is both a hedge against the company’s business model and a significant valuation multiplier. + Multi-layered monetization strategies The second plus refers to monetization strategies that go beyond typical SaaS licensing fees. Typically a byproduct of their business model, such companies have other inherent value that goes beyond traditional revenue. That value comes in the form of the unique and proprietary datasets they have created, the technical artifacts they have developed, or the network effect of an ecosystem. We refer to the conversion of these two features as Software++, a combination that consistently gives companies a major competitive advantage while dramatically increasing their upside potential. Stage: Seed and Series A Geography: California and Texas Industry: We are sector and vertical agnostic, and seek out high-performance companies Initial checks: $1 million to $5 million (often the first institutional investor) Follow-on checks: We double down on winners and can invest up to $10-20 million to back them across their entire lifecycle Driven by our values. Teamwork: Venture capital is a team sport. We work with other investors and our LP base to bring founders the support and expertise they need to succeed. Mutual respect: We always have our founders’ backs, and expect them to have ours. Alignment: Our success hinges on staying aligned with our founders and our LPs and working together to everyone’s benefit.

Knoll Ventures

Founded in 2018 and based in Atlanta, GA, Knoll Ventures invests in Pre-Series A tech enabled B2B companies. In Spring 2022, we closed our second fund to support founders at the earliest stages of the growth process where we help drive value creation and increase the odds of success. Our‍ approach We lead or co-lead $500,000 to $3,000,000 investment rounds in B2B technology-enabled companies at the pre-seed, seed, and post-seed stages. We understand that no two early-stage companies take the same path from Point A to Point B, and we're adept at helping founders navigate their way. We look for passionate founders who see around corners, intimately understand customer pain points, and articulate a future vision that feels all but inevitable. Stage Expertise: By focusing on Pre-Series A companies, we've developed a unique perspective on the challenges encountered by founders at this stage. Whether starting a business or facing what feels like an insurmountable obstacle, we aspire to be the first call a founder makes when looking for actionable advice. Alignment: We align ourselves with founders through our deep knowledge of round objectives and a scalable investment structure, creating a dynamic where we win only if the founders win. Network: We make the right introductions at the right time knowing that meaningful connections during this critical stage in the growth process can dramatically improve a company's trajectory. Our impact Our commitment extends far beyond the dollars invested. We take a long-term perspective when partnering with founders to identify ways to add value beyond just writing a check.
