We are looking for a talented Investment Manager for our investment team to help us cover SaaS opportunities within the DACH market. 

We are entrepreneurs first, and investors second. We invest in industry-defining companies, particularly in consumer technology. We would love to add you to our great team culture and we have offices in Berlin, Stockholm and London. 

Ideally, we'd love to hear from you if you are with another VC fund (focused on the DACH market), or perhaps you are a strong operator from a product or engineering background passionate about the start-up space within the DACH ecosystem.

Key responsibilities include:

Whilst no two days are the same, everyone is focused on finding the best seed and early-stage companies and founders in Europe.

We do this by:

  • Identifying and researching high-quality companies for consideration for investment.
  • Conducting investment due diligence by analyzing data, leading market research, conducting diligence calls, and drafting your investment memos.
  • Facilitating and own internal discussions around investment decisions that you bring, and participating in group considerations for that others bring. 
  • Bring in your functional or industry knowledge to help our portfolio companies thrive in any way possible and develop deep sector or thematic expertise.
  • Contributing to building a world-class early-stage venture capital fund by taking on additional responsibility for various other initiatives.

What it takes to be successful in this role - Does this checklist describe you?

  • Hustle/Resilience - Are you prepared to work both hard and smart? We are looking for purpose, meaning and mission led individuals who are comfortable working continually with a sense of urgency. This is not a role where you can afford to wait for opportunities and deals to present themselves. You will build your own extensive networks to enable you to have your finger on the pulse, seeking out the best founders to invest in. NO is not a word that sits well with any of us, when we want something we always seek to find a solution.
  • Networking abilities - Do you enjoy networking? Can you walk into a room, not knowing anyone, and easily make connections? In this type of role being able to source proprietary deal flow through your network is probably the number one differentiator to making you a top-performing VC. This is what keeps you at the top with an unfair competitive advantage. In your current role, do you naturally find yourself networking in the investment, startup, and/or corporate industries? In this role, you will need to build out your networks in all three! Your network is your toolbox, by leveraging your networks correctly, you can create a network effect that can be used not only for deal sourcing but also to support your portfolio companies.
  • Intellectual curiosity - You need to be both broad and deep in your knowledge bases. You need to be open to new ideas, and ways of thinking. As an investor, you never know what pitch is coming through your door next. As such, to be effective you need to be constantly clued in about emerging technologies and product trends, which requires constant learning.
  • Willingness to get involved - When we invest, we offer more than just capital. We are on hand to support our founders all the way, so you need to be willing to get involved and get your hands dirty. This could be helping the company meet business goals, find new talent or customers, or giving your two cents worth about the best direction to take the company. Your experience and network are equally as valuable as our checkbook.
  • Dynamic thinking - Are you naturally always thinking ten steps down the road, which could split into a variety of paths? You need to be able to be hyper-focused on business value and potential strengths, regardless of how ‘out there’ the pitch is. Many of today’s unicorns started off as a completely different product or service, so seeing various potential successful outcomes, and backing founders who can also think dynamically about their business to produce a successful pivot at a later stage is essential.
  • High degree of stamina - We have thousands of applications for investments year on year. Could you meet 5-10 start-ups in a day, and still enjoy your job? Regardless of whether it is your first or last pitch of the day, you need to stay focused and be able to differentiate between misleading ‘shiny objects’ and the true ‘diamonds in the rough. Just because you have seen five bad pitches doesn’t mean the next one might not be a winner.
  • Calculated risk-taking - Being able to take calculated risks is an art form. In this role, you will be constantly assessing risk vs reward to get the biggest return across a portfolio of companies. You will need to develop a good understanding of different markets and consumer trends to reduce market sizing and timing risks.
  • Open-mindedness - You need to be open to finding good ideas that initially look like bad ideas. Sometimes entrepreneurs have unlocked a secret about a market that other people haven’t uncovered, so it’s important to have an open mind when considering pitches. That said, it is still important to support logic with facts — so you must be able to think outside the box without getting carried away in the moment or with a shiny object.
  • Conviction - We never say maybe, instead we find a balance between gut-based decisions and methodical/data-oriented decisions, which allows us to choose between two options: pass or invest.
  • Business acumen - Having the ability to look across sectors and understand market sizes, market opportunities, and market timing are essential. In our industry, being early is the same thing as being wrong. You will be often faced with the unique challenge of evaluating markets that don’t exist yet or are in their early days. You will still need to do an industry assessment of market size on the back of an envelope, based on solid logic alone.

About you:

  • High-profile professional experience from a previous VC fund OR Management Consulting OR Operator in a startup (product /engineering background preferred).
  • A strong technical knowledge and understanding of SaaS based products and companies
  • Strong analytical background, you are not afraid of working with numbers and data
  • Ideally you have studied in a top European university and are networked within the German and/or DACH startup scene and knowledgeable about the startup ecosystem with a huge curiosity for early-stage companies
  • You live a couple of years in the future and have a good sense of what’s happening next in the industry
  • International and multicultural mindset/background
  • Fluency in German & English

Not mandatory, but a big plus: 

  • Solid technical understanding and strong intuition for tech products; any coding, product development, or UX/UI skills
