Talent Network Manager

AirTree Ventures

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Full time

Nov 7

AirTree is a venture capital firm with a mission to back the most ambitious Australian and Kiwi founders who are building the iconic technology companies of tomorrow, right from the start. As one of the largest and most active funds in Australia and New Zealand, you'll be working with 80+ of the most exciting startups in our region, including Canva, Linktree, Who Gives a Crap, Go1, Brighte, Eucalyptus, Immutable, Mr Yum - and the list goes on.

In early 2022, we announced a new $700m fund with $200m dedicated to investing in seed-stage companies and $50m in Web3 projects.

We're a down-to-earth team from diverse backgrounds but with the same passion: startups and technology. We've written a lot about what we do at AirTree, check out our blog, AirTree's Year in Review 2021 and our team bios on our website.

We are committed to building a world-class VC platform for Australia and New Zealand startups with global ambitions. This is an opportunity to help shape AirTree and make an impact on our region's tech ecosystem.

About the role

Contributing to the wider startup community and enabling our portfolio companies are both key pillars of AirTree's mission.

As Talent Network Manager, you'll be running AirTree's flagship Talent programs, events and networks to attract and connect top talent to our portfolio companies. This isn't a typical recruitment role - we're looking for a community-driven person who approaches building talent networks with a creative and scalable approach. This is a full-time permanent position.

At the heart of this role is creating a powerful talent network that aligns and connects top-tier talent with the hiring needs of AirTree's portfolio through talent attraction, matching and advisory.

  • Attract: You'll build communities of top-tier talent through at-scale events, community initiatives and partnerships, as well as 1:1 relationships to create a talent pool using a CRM.
  • Match: Build great relationships with founders and their teams to understand each portfolio company's hiring plans, employer brand, culture and recruiting processes. You'll then match candidates to portfolio opportunities through introductions and referrals.
  • Advisory: Provide portfolio companies with guidance and resources on best practice talent acquisition and employer branding strategies and processes. For example, you might:
  • Help an early-stage portfolio company set up their first recruitment processes, before they hire a Head of TA
  • Create practical and insightful content (e.g. blogs / templates / guides) on best practice talent acquisition and employer branding strategies and processes
  • Help our portfolio companies effectively manage external recruiters
  • Complete backdoor references for key candidates across the portfolio
  • Startup Ecosystem: As a startup enthusiast, you'll advocate for top talent to join the startup ecosystem and proactively think of and execute new ways to help us connect talent with ANZ's startup community.
  • Analytics: Manage the AirTree talent platform and track candidate and portfolio engagement metrics as well as successful talent placements.
  • Salary Benchmarking: Manage an annual benchmarking survey of startup employee salaries.

The person we're looking for:

  • You have experience in talent acquisition, including demonstrated impact in recruitment, employer branding and TA process optimisation (preferably in a startup context).
  • You're energised by the opportunity to connect the best talent with great professional opportunities in the ANZ startup ecosystem.
  • You are a self-starter and a doer. You're happy to work autonomously and with ambiguity, rolling up your sleeves to build plans and execute on them
  • You're a strong communicator and networker, able to express yourself clearly and concisely to external audiences and internal stakeholders.
  • You are excited to play a part in building a vibrant early-stage technology sector in Australia.
  • Previous experience in any of the following will be highly looked upon: community building, events/project/product management, digital marketing, social media and content creation.

Location, Flexibility & Support

  • AirTree's headquarter is based in Sydney, but our team enjoys a flexible (WFH days), supportive and family-friendly work environment.

We also offer:

  • 5 weeks of leave: 4 weeks annual leave plus 1 bonus week of lifestyle and well-being leave
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave for the primary carer
  • A supportive return-to-work policy
  • An annual budget for your training & self-development
  • A range of health and wellness benefits including EAP, mental health first aid training, skin checks, flu vaccines and more.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

  • We celebrate and value diversity and are committed to being equitable and inclusive in the way we hire and in the way our team works together.

We strongly encourage you to apply even if you are not sure you fit all of the criteria we've mentioned above. All our roles involve a range of skill sets and we recognise that everyone has different strengths and experiences that can add lots of value to our team.

How to Apply

From the initial submissions we'll select a small group of candidates for an interview and a short take-home case study.

Finalists from that will be invited for in-person interviews with our team to talk through the case study. We hope to finish the process by end of November and have you working with us as soon as possible.
